Risk Management, Safety & Quality at Adventist HealthCare

We are committed to patient safety and promoting the wellbeing of our patients, staff, doctors and visitors.
Our team of skilled professionals at Adventist HealthCare including Sydney Adventist Hospital and San Day Surgery Hornsby, are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care with positive outcomes for all patients. Staff and visiting accredited medical doctors are supported by a Risk, Safety & Quality team consisting of:

Quality plays an integral part of Adventist HealthCare operations and remains a key corporate strategy across our sites.
At each site there is a comprehensive quality management program to monitor, assess, evaluate and improve the quality of patient care across the organisation. To ensure compliance with evidence-based standards, an audit program for both clinical and non-clinical practices and processes is in place. The philosophy of continual process improvement is supported by a corporate Adventist HealthCare Quality Awards program.
Consumer feedback is encouraged through regular patient satisfaction surveys and patient feedback brochures are available onsite at each facility.
All facilities are fully certified by Global-Mark to AS/NZS ISO 9001 (Quality Management Systems) and the ten National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
To ensure compliance with best practice standards, review of documented clinical care is undertaken as part of a peer review program. Adventist HealthCare participates in a number of benchmarking programs monitoring clinical indicators through ACHS (Australian Council Health Care standards) and Key Performance Indicators through HBN (Hospital Benchmark Network).
Infection Prevention & Control
The Infection Prevention and Control program is comprehensive and aimed at preventing and limiting the spread of infection. The program uses evidence-based research to guide clinical practice. This includes education for staff, patients and their families, and auditing of staff practises to ensure compliance with infection prevention measures and surveillance. In addition Adventist HealthCare participates in the National Hand Hygiene program.

Adventist HealthCare uses an integrated approach to identify, analyse, evaluate, treat, monitor, and review risks involved in the provision of health care. An integrated proactive approach is taken, placing the emphasis on prevention, in order to assist all areas in providing the safest possible environment for patients, staff, doctors and visitors.
Sydney Adventist Hospital Partnership with the Cognitive Institute's Safety & Reliability Improvement Program
In 2015, Sydney Adventist Hospital was selected to join seven Asia Pacific organisations as the Cognitive Institute's Safety and Reliability Improvement Program (SRIP) partners.
This exciting new program currently being implemented at Sydney Adventist Hospital, further demonstrates the organisation's ongoing commitment to delivering quality, safe and reliable healthcare.

Partnering with Consumers
In line with its Mission of caring for patients and the community, Adventist HealthCare (AHCL) is committed to enhancing quality and excellence in care through involving consumers in the planning, delivery and evaluation of health care services. The organisation recognises the importance of patient and family centred care, and the vital role that patients, families and carers play as part of the healthcare team.
We encourage active participation of consumers as volunteer members on relevant organisational committees including the AHCL Consumer Advisory Council.
