San Psychiatrist Associate Professor Dr Milton Roxanas nominated Board of Curators of the Olser Library of the History of Medicine
San Psychiatrist Associate Professor Dr Milton Roxanas has been honoured by his nomination for the committee of the Board of Curators of the Olser Library of the History of Medicine at Mc Gill University in Montreal.
Sir William Osler is one of the most honoured physicians in the history of medicine with his text book, The Principles and Practice of Medicine, and other clinical and philosophical writings widely considered to have influenced the development of the medical profession. Sir Osler is considered to be a model of excellence for the medical profession.
Associate Professor Roxana reports that he was at a dinner in Oxford in the UK when he was asked if would accept a nomination to the committee of the Board of Curators of the Osler Library of the History of Medicine at Mc Gill University in Montreal.
“I was thunderstruck, it took me a few seconds to answer in the affirmative “ says Associate Professor Roxanas.
“Then realising the honour and duty of this position, I asked if I can have a couple of days to think about it.
Needless to say I accepted the nomination and then asked what was expected of me.
I (was told) would have to go to Montreal in November, attend the board meetings, listen to the Oslerian oration and mark the student essays for the Osler essay prize. I was voted into the committee about two months ago. It was a memorable and will remain so in my mind for the rest of my life.”
