Celebrating the re-opening of the newly refurbished Cardiothoracic Theatre
On Thursday 23 April, SAH Operating Theatres celebrated the re-opening of the newly refurbished Cardiothoracic Theatre – Theatre 1.
With a small group in the new theatre, and the donor family and San Foundation Board members attending via Zoom, Karen Gair expressed our deep gratitude to the Charles Warman Foundation whose $1M donation through the San Foundation created a truly state-of-the-art theatre for the hospital to continue its great surgical cardiovascular work.
Cardiac surgeon Dr Emily Granger demonstrated the importance of the new theatre features such as 4K overhead cameras which allow the operating team to see very clear and amplified detail of the patient and anticipate needs much faster during surgery; the significantly expanded capacity to integrate robotic procedures and enhanced vision through new video screens; completely up to date electronics and fibre optic cabling; as well as far greater bypass ability, saying “this really puts us ahead of the game”.
Chris King, representing the Charles Warman Foundation, officially declared the theatre open by switching on the new triple surgical lights.
