New Nurse Graduates start at the San
21 New Graduate Nurses have commenced the San’s one year New Graduate Program run by San Education, the hospital’s Registered Training Organisation.
The New Graduate Program provides new TAFE and University qualified Enrolled and Registered nurses with their first year of nursing employment, practical hands-on experience, exposure to different career opportunities, and mentoring by San nurses and clinical experts.
During the Program each graduate will rotate through various wards and experience three specialist clinical areas such as orthopaedics, coronary or emergency care, equipping them for long term employment opportunities at either the San or other acute care hospitals.
“Every year we have hundreds of applications for our New Graduate Program” says the San’s New Graduate Nurse Coordinator Karen Jessop.
“I think the overwhelming interest in our program shows the quality of education and training the San has to offer.
“It’s great to be able to provide this opportunity to the new nursing workforce and empower them with skills that they will use throughout their careers.”
Three of the 21 graduate nurses in the 2020 program have already chosen the area they wish to specialise in and have joined the 12 month Perioperative Graduate Nurse Program to gain operating theatre experience.
The San has been training nurses since 1903 and is home to more graduate nurses on the one site than any other private hospital in NSW.
