San Pharmacy Director Steven Crago gives back to the community
San Pharmacy Director Steven Crago has been amongst the hundreds of volunteer firefighters assisting during the recent fires across NSW.
Having been a member of the Westleigh Fire Brigade for the past 6 months, Steven was qualified as a Basic Firefighter in November last year after completing theory and practical training.
“I joined because I wanted to set myself a new challenge, learn new skills and serve my local community” says Steven.
Soon after his qualification, the brigade of approximately 40 active members were called to action assisting day and night in fire-fighting, back burning, and property protection.
Steven participated in strike teams on the Gospers Mountain (Wollemi), Three Mile fire and Wingello/Bundanoon fire grounds.
“As a newcomer I had to quickly come to terms with the sounds, smoke, smells and dangers of the fire ground, especially falling trees”.
“I am in awe of the professionalism, selflessness and commitment of all the emergency services and I feel very proud of the role of the RFS, especially the Westleigh Brigade, has played over the last few months.
“Personally I joined to give back to the community, but I have been humbled by the community’s generosity and appreciation of the RFS. It just makes you want to give even more.”
